It's amazing how you can go your whole life without knowing that you have a virtual kindred spirit until you have a digital run-in on the world wide web. That's exactly what happened when I e-met, Leah from Yoder Toter Blog. Like me, she married her high school sweetheart, has a bunch of little kids who she homeschools, and she stills find time and passion to travel. Our similarities continue in our feelings on faith and our philosophy on finances. She probably doesn't have my obcession with alliteration, but it is nice to know that there is someone else making their way through life with a crazy little family and a passport.
I am so excited to have her share her experiences with traveling. And if you are like me, and you are wondering about the term "Yoder Toter", it's a large van that takes the Amish on excursions to places like Walmart. Leah isn't Amish or a van driver, so you'll have to visit her blog to learn more about how that term fits her family. Meanwhile, here's a little more about the author.
Quick! You’ve got 30 seconds before your toddler dumps your bag all over the airport lounge. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.
The weekend I turned sixteen my now-husband, Brian, asked me out on our first date. It’s now 15 years later and we have three children, ages 5, 3, and 1, and have made our home outside of Columbus, OH. I’m passionate about showing my kids the world while also teaching them the value of a dollar. Day-to-day life with littles is an crazy thing, I'm normally cleaning up messes, breaking up fights, and keeping the laundry from imploding (I'm not joking!); but when I'm not I try to read and blog as much as possible. I'm also working hard to speak quieter (probably won't happen) and eat less chocolate and ice cream (eh, it probably won't either).
Okay, let’s do some easy questions:
Car or Airplane? Car
Beach or Mountains? I like both! Hard choice.
Carry-on or Checked? Checked.
Early bird or Night Owl? Early bird. Unfortunately the kids are, too.
Museums or Hiking Trails? Trails.
Now, let’s get serious. What’s your favorite trip you’ve ever taken?
Wow, it’s hard to pick just one. I loved Australia so much as an exchange student that my husband and I have traveled back twice (with a third trip with kids in the works). Beyond that, probably the trip my husband and I took to New Mexico. I really fell in love with Santa Fe. The adobe structures, Native American history, and the Mexican food- just so many good things.
What is one place you are dreaming of visiting?
I’ve been reading up on Normandy, France and Banff National Park, Canada.
If you could pick one quote to sum up your feelings about travel, what would it be?
I would rather own little and see the world than own the world and see little. ~Alexander Sattler
