How to Have a Perfect Day at Texas State Aquarium

As much as I would love for all of my trips to be perfectly planned and executed, that is just not the case.  So many variables can have an impact on the success.   Our day at the Texas State Aquarium was enjoyable and fun filled, but my lack of knowledge left me feeling like I was floundering all day.  So, if I had to do again, I would plan our day at the Texas State Aquarium something like this.

9:00 Purchase your tickets and head downstairs to check out the outdoor exhibits.  Say hello to the turtles and pet the stingrays.  Later in the day this area really heats up, so enjoy it during the cool part of the day.

9:45 Get a good seat for the Dolphin Encounter Show at 10:00.  Enjoy the education and antics of these graceful creatures.

10:30 Wander over to Otter Creek to watch the trainers interact and play with the funny otters.

10:45 Beat the crowd and head over to the Splash Park to grab a table in the shade.  Stop at the Water’s Edge Food Court to get some lunch to enjoy while the kids play.   Try to get the kids  to eat a few bites in between the buckets of water and shooting water pistols.

12:00 As the temperatures rise and the crowds pick up, head to the air conditioned underwater viewing tank to check out the dolphins from another angle.  See what happens underwater as the dolphins perform for the crowds above.  Enjoy the calm and cool views before heading upstairs to the main level tanks.  Don’t miss the 10 foot alligator in the Swamp Tales exhibit.

 

1:15 Pick a seat for the Wild Flight Show and enjoy a ice cream cone while you wait for the 1:30 show.  Check out the furry and feathered friends as you learn about animal conservation.

2:00  Did you miss anything?  Take one more dip in the splash park and pet the sting rays on the way.  Say goodbye to all of your new sea creature friends as you head out the door.
