Packing skills are something that even experienced packers have to practice to perfect. There are some trips for which I can pack in my sleep, but those are usually the trips that I have done more than once. We have finally achieved that experienced status with Great Wolf Lodge, and have a packing list that works for the indoor water park. Not only have we learned what to pack for a trip to the Lodge, we have also learned what not to pack.
What to Pack for Great Wolf Lodge
- Two swimming suits: Normally I don’t like redundancy in my suitcase, but so much time is spent swimming that there is no time to for suits to dry. Putting on a wet swimming suit is annoying, at best, but with the air conditioning at GWL, it is also very cold. A dry swimming suit is worth any extra space it takes up in the suitcase.
- A fluffy bathrobe: The air in the water park is very warm, but the air outside by comparison is a frigid blast. Towels provided by the water park must be left in the water park, so something warm and cozy to stave off the chill is certainly welcome.
- Flip flops or Crocs: Easy footwear for wearing to and from the waterpark makes life a little easier.
- Footwear that doesn’t flip (or flop): If you plan to play Magiquest, that means an epic amount of climbing up and down the hidden staircase. Flip flops and stairs are a combination that doesn’t often end well, so pack something that has a bit more staying power.
- Cute pajamas and slippers: Okay, not a “must-pack” but it makes the story time (and the accompanying pictures) so much more fun.
- Costumes: Again, not a “must-pack” but serious MagiQuesters will be seen wearing a variety of wizard/princess/knight/dragon costumes. Of course, those costumes are available in the Magiquest store, but if you happen to have a cape tucked in your costume collection at home, you can add to the fun while saving some cash.
- Snacks and Drinks: Fun *read overpriced food is everywhere at GWL, and while it is sometimes fun to splurge, you can also save some cash by bringing your own treats. A refrigerator and microwave is available in every room, so you can keep ice cream and drinks cold while you are playing.
What Not to Pack for Great Wolf Lodge
- Towels: Towels are provided by the waterpark, so it is not necessary to bring your own.
- LifeJackets: Plenty of sizes are available to borrow from the park
- Sunscreen: Depending on the location or season, all of the waterpark is located inside.

Hi Jessica, great travel tips Tuesday again! Knowing what to pack is one thing, but knowing what NOT to pack is a different story. I like how you added that in your post. I just linked up my own travel tips post as well. Aloha.
