A Waterfall: by an almost 12 year old
Where am I? Waimea Falls in Waimea Valley Oahu, Hawaii
Why am I Here? Mom and I were on vacation in Hawaii. We were driving around the North Shore of Oahu and we stopped because Mom saw a sign and wanted to take some pictures of Waimea Valley-as usual.
What’s so cool about it anyway? At first, I thought it was just a long walk. But as I became more aware, I found myself in paradise-flowers of every color, birds, bugs, and beautiful trees. It was so beautiful that the memory and pictures can’t capture it.
So, did you learn anything? The water at Waimea Falls was believed to have healing powers, and the warriors even brought their wounded to swim in the waters. I also learned that Waimea means ‘red waters.’ YIKES! Swimming in blood? Freaky, right? Don’t worry, kids. The red water is actually caused by the iron in the volcanic rocks. Phew!
What should other kids know about visiting? Two words. Cooo-ooold! The water is freezing. Also, if you are checking off your list like I am, you will have to wear a life jacket, even if you can swim. It’s required for kids 12 and under.
Rate it on a scale from 1 to 10. The water was cold and deep and the bottom was rocky. The walk was long, full of bugs and uphill most of the way. The weather was hot and humid. So, I’d give it a……10!
~See what my mom had to say about Waimea Valley~
I love this!! I love the perspective of a child.
What a cute idea to keep the kids engaged in your travels. Its a nice way to help them keep up those writing skills during summer break. I love the rating, you totally think it is going to be a low number, but surprise, its a 10! 🙂
