Just your typical Disney picture |
It has been a family tradition to bring each of the kids to Disney for the first time on their third birthday. It seems to be an age when the magic of Disney is the most tangible and I was so looking forward to sharing that with the kids again.
Huge lollipops make waiting for a parade easy |
Just a couple months before our scheduled trip, we had learned that it would be impossible for us to have another baby. We had come to terms with that in our own way and were looking forward to a trip that would allow us to leave the sad thoughts behind. For two years we had imagined and worked towards a bigger version of our family and now it was time to embrace our family as it would be with acceptance.
Matching Mickey Glasses |
After two years of laboriously charting, I was too intimately aware of my cycles. I had determined that there would be a reminder of my lack of pregnancy right in the middle of our vacation. With chagrin, I packed a small bag in my suitcase with all my personal necessities.
Dizzy Teacup Fun |
By mid week, we had dined with Mickey and dizzied ourselves on the teacups and screamed our way down the Tower of Terror. We were doing Disney to the fullest and loving every minute of it. We were so busy during the day, that when our heads hit the pillow, we were asleep almost instantly. That is until two days before our scheduled departure, when I realized that the tiny bag in the corner of my suitcase had been unused. That night I laid awake in bed counting calendar days in my head, wondering if the impossible was, in fact, possible.
Meeting Chef Mickey |
The next two days crept by, as there was no way to confirm or deny my suspicions on the Disney property. By the time our airplane landed at DFW, I could no longer be contained. We drove straight from the airport to the nearest drug store, so that I could answer the looming question.
Nose to Nose with Minnie |
I’m sure the look on my face gave it away as I walked back to the car, but I wanted to tell my husband in a way that didn’t spill the beans to the kids just yet. “Disney really is the happiest place on Earth,” I choked through tears, as I showed him the digital pregnancy test. PREGNANT.
Doing Dumbo with style |
I love looking back at these pictures, knowing that there is a growing miracle inside of me, but that I did not have any idea. When we look at vacation pictures together, I point to my stomach and say “look there’s Morgan right there.” The boys usually laugh, and I laugh too, knowing that the me in the picture had no inkling of the happy news I was quietly carrying.
It looks as if we will be returning to the happiest place on earth in a little over three years to celebrate another, much anticipated birthday.

Thanks for sharing your story. I will admit, I got a little weepy reading it. I have too many friends struggling with fertility and it made me so happy to hear that you were able to add to your gang after trying for 2 years. You have a beautiful traveling family.
